Song Thrush ( Turdus philomelos )
These are now a very occasional visitor to our garden. When I was young they were very common, you could guarantee to see at least one everyday. We must be doing something seriously wrong to this world of ours. As is frequently said 2 there is no planet B".
Song Thrushes are now Amber Listed by UK conservation. This means there is concern over their status. The breeding population has fallen by 49% since the late 60s. There has recently been a slight increase in numbers so we can be hopeful.. Ringing recoveries reveal some fascinating information. Most have been in winter but there are good numbers from Spring and Autumn as well. Recoveries are spread from the far north of Scandinavia to north Africa, the is even a recovery as far east as Russia.
