These peonies are a surprise gift from Mr. Y who I got to know since I started renting the allotment. He has been growing his vegetables there for 15 years after his retirement, and he now enjoys growing flowers, too.

I was feeling sad because my father was taken to the hospital the night before. These lovely flowers brought tears into my eyes. I have met some very nice people on allotments. It is probably the most surprising birthday present for me although he didn't (and still doesn't) know about my birthday.
