Pop-ups
We're getting to know the rhythm of a duckling's day. It moves in approximately 20-30 minute cycles between foraging for food and sleeping.
The food-foraging includes picking at the plants in the pond, chasing insects, diving under the water and racing after humans who may distribute mealworms. (The ducklings are happy to come really close, though the mother is more circumspect).
Sleeping is always in a big pile together, and sometimes underneath the mother who now has to spread her wings out to try and cover them up. In this photo these two had just popped out from underneath mum to start the foraging session.
They are a week old and we reckon they are twice the size as they were last week. It was hard to choose a photo today so there are a couple more in extras.
