West entrance, Sta Eulalia de Abamia
This is a place I like to visit - Sta Eulalia was built in the 13th century on the site of an earlier temple, and was the first burial place of Pelayo, the first king of Asturias, and of his wife Gaudiosa. Main shows the main, west, entrance - obviously, the presence of glass shows that the door itself has been remodelled. Extra 1 shows the main entrance from down the hill and through some branches. Extra 2 shows a cross from the churchyard - I´ll translate the inscription at the end of this paragraph. Extra 3 is to confirm the observation made by Amando Alentejo this week that there´s still some snow on the Picos de Europa. It´s taken from the church at Abamia, and the haze is haze.
The inscription reads
The girl child Rosita de la Parte del Corro, taken to heaven 12 July 1943,in the fifth year of her life.
You will never be forgotten by your mother, your grandmother, and family.
It doesn´t explain the absence of male family, though the date, close to the Civil War, may.
