Solid stone tombs...
...and headstones in the churchyard...
A beautiful afternoon for a trip to the podiatrist ;)
I nearly always take a wander through the churchyard on the way, but today I was kidnapped and dragged in to look at the church interior too - see extras!
Elizabethan pews, an amazing ceiling, an ancient font and stone cross, and a piece of timber in the oldest pews dating to 1066!
They are open most Wednesday afternoons, apparently, and the "guides" were clearly very proud of their church and grounds.
The churchyard is managed to promote wildlife and wild flowers - some areas cut short, and others allowed to remain overgrown. The local community is also involved in keeping the churchyard a serene haven, by volunteering and/or adopting a grave to look after.
I'm glad I accepted the invite to look around!
