Florence
Back blip
This city has been on our wish list for a long time, and today we made it!
The weather improved overnight and we had a lovely warm day, with sunshine all the time.
The coach parked on the riverside of the River Arno and we walked along the river to the Ponte Vecchio, the very iconic old bridge, with its jewellery shops lining the span of the bridge. It was crowded, even at this time of year, and I cannot imagine how busy it must be in July and August. However, I was fascinated by it all, and we walked over the bridge and stopped for a coffee, and did some people watching for a while and taking in the atmosphere of the old town.
I left Bob sitting with his coffee and walked further into the old city, enjoying the sights, then when we met up again walked to the Piazza Della Signoria, where we saw a copy of Michelangelo's 'David' (the original is in the Galleria dell' Accademia and it was not possible to get entrance.)
Everywhere you point a camera gives a wonderful picture, and I enjoyed very much the experience. Walking around the Duomo was most interesting also, and there is too much to tell, the pictures will have to suffice.
The view of Florence from Piazzale Michelangelo was stunning in the late afternoon sunlight. So many people milling around, you had to fight for your place for a picture!
A long day but oh so satisfying!
