Equisetum
This plant has many names including the better known Horsetail. It is one of the ancient plants, its ancestors being 100 million years old, and some of them reaching up to 30 metres high. This species first appeared during the Jurassic period and because of its high nutritious value (for dinosaur's) it is assumed it played an important part in a dinosoar's diet! Here it is growing on the farm. I have been watching this year's growth spring up quickly every day - these are still young and have a way to go yet. As the stems are coated with a silicon substance the monks of yesteryear used to use them as an abrasive cleaning their silver and other metal items. Difficult to get rid of because of its underground runners.
Extra: Guelder Rose - one of the National symbols of the Ukraine.
