Autumn colour and a glimpse of the ‘new’ main road between Nelson and Motueka.

In previous times this route was secondary as the main road travelled along the inland Moutere highway.

Previously the narrow and incredibly dusty original ‘track’ wound its way around the coast, mainly servicing the many local orchards in the area.

In more recent times a modern road was built across the mudflats - at which time the route became the state highway to this part of the district.
