Hoviley
Strolling back from Hyde yesterday along a long lost corner of the town once known as Hoviley which disappeared in the '70s beneath the M67 motorway. Hoviley Brow used to lead up to the town centre and it's right of way, at least for the unmotorised, was maintained by the roving-style concrete bridge blipped previously.
Hoviley Bridge still carries the road across Godley Brook although current mapping now calls the road Commercial St. The old street sign disappeared about 4 years ago annoyingly. Extra is old vs.new...there is very little left.
Anyway, staring at the ground in dog walking mode I spotted another old utility cover. No idea what lies beneath but it was made by Guest & Chrimes, a brass & iron foundry from Rotherham where apparently the old foundry building still exists. Lovely Ms.Arell found one in her locality a week or so ago that also gave no clue to it's purpose.
Talking of dog walking, Shadow & Peggy were walked in the evening with eldest & my Mum. The warm weather this week has been very pleasant but it does knock one out somewhat!
