The Gazweasel Times

Friday bottom #49

This week it's Eurydice. I had to squeeze the camera between her and the wall, but I managed it.

This was carved by Joseph Edgar Boehm in about 1875-80. It depicts Eurydice, bitten by a snake, and about to descend into the Underworld.

Joe was an Austrian but, preferring proper beer, he moved to England in 1862 where he flourished. Queen Vic loved his work. He rarely created mythological works so this is very special.

The full version is, as usual, here.
