Newcastle Civic Theatre
The Civic Theatre Newcastle is one of Australia's great historic theatres with a richly baroque interior sure to delight and inspire. The exterior of the building references the Georgian revival style with elegant arched windows.
The heritage listed theatre was designed by theatre architect Henry Eli White who was responsible for the design of Newcastle City Hall and the State Theatre in Sydney. In a spectacular celebratory ceremony, it was opened by the Premier of New South Wales in 1929. It is one of the few surviving late-1920s atmospheric theatres in the country.
My wife and I went there this afternoon and watched a production of Mousetrap.
