The Circus Comes to Town
Tour de France day today and we set off to bag a space in the nearby village of Herepian. One of the very best bits is the Caravane which races along at high speed with klaxons blaring and lights flashing. These are all the sponsors of the race and as you can see they take their responsibilities seriously. Motorised salamis whizz by followed by giant Haribo figures, giant gas canisters and a man in a posing pouch gyrating on a bungee advertising "X-TRA!" washing powder. This float was for the PMU, the national Tote for betting on the geegees.
As the floats zip by pretty young people chuck stuff at the passers-by - caps, newspapers, sweeties, Madeleines, keyrings and you'll see fully grown adults flinging themselves in front of tiny tots desperate to goal-keep the goodies first. Mais oui, all's fair in love and the Tour. We caught lots I'm glad to say.
After that we crossed the road away from the sunny side, and dug into some fresh-as-you-like pate, ham, a St Nectaire fermier, a couer de boeuf tomato and some succulent apricots. A snooze and an hour later the Tour rode into town and you can find out all about that if you take a look at 5000vines blip.
What a great day!
