Cycling, and plane spotting!

It was a sunny warm day today, so we got out on our bikes, cycling from Bass Island trailhead to Lunken airport, the loop around the airport, and back, for a total of 13.6 miles. From the point of view of plane spotting however, it was disappointing, the only planes coming in or out while we were watching were small Cessnas, and due to the wind, they were taking off away from us. It was still an enjoyable ride, though, with lovely clouds in the sky, and wild flowers along the trail in places.
In the evening, we were at a very special Cincinnati Symphony concert, being the last weekend under the direction of Louis Langrée, who has been with the Symphony for over a decade, and has been much loved by the community as a whole. The evening began with a speech of thanks from the President and CEO of the Symphony, with a response from Louis. It was a varied concert, starting with Beethoven’s Leonore Overture, followed by a world premiere - Louis has been a great supporter of new works, pointing out that even Beethoven’s work was new once!
The second half featured to of his native French works, Dukas The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloe Suite, which he said if he absolutely could only chose one piece of music to have on a desert island, that would probably be it! At the end, the audience immediately rose in a prolonged standing ovation. He is to be replaced by the Romanian born Cristian Macelaru, who we have already seen as a guest conductor of the CSO.
