Oak pollard
This morning I took the spaniel to Croft Castle (which is neither croft nor castle) in north Herefordshire for a wet and windy walk around the Fishpool Valley and out into the parkland. Croft castle is renowned for its ancient trees (the Ancient Tree Forum describes it as "one of the very best ancient tree properties in Britain") including an avenue of chestnuts that date from around 1580 and the 1,000 year old Quarry oak. My blip is of one of the ancient oak pollards in the woodland pasture.
