Car Show

As today’s “highlight” was a trip to the dentist, you’ll forgive me for using some shots from yesterday for my blip!
With the day dawning warm and sunny again, we thought we’d go to the “Total Retro” show at the County Showground. I even got the roof down on the car for the journey there!
Described as a mix of classic and modded vehicles, there weren’t quite as many cars as I’d hoped. But there was other entertainment as well - trade stands, refreshments and live bands, to name a few. In the main arena some of the more modified cars were paraded and there was also a stunt show.
The latter wasn’t particularly good, but was strangely addictive viewing. The chap doing the stunts was “a 55 year old, fat Geordie, who’s broken most of the bones in his body”. His words, not mine. He performed with a variety of vehicles - a pushbike, a motorbike, a quad bike and a buggy. Basically, his show was that if a vehicle had two wheels, he went around the arena on one, and if it had four wheels, he went around on two! He did his own commentary and would exhort us to applaud if we weren’t sufficiently appreciative of his efforts!
Two modded cars caught my eye. The P6 Rover was acquired without doors and wings so the owner slapped on a set of wide wheels and then made up some panels to suit. A very good job he made of it too, as the fit and paintwork was immaculate. I was hoping to see and hear the Austin A30 in action as it has been fitted with a motorcycle engine and gearbox. Fuel injection, sequential gears and revs to 10,000 - it should have been quite a spectacle, but it didn’t enter the arena whilst we were there.
Maybe not best car show I’ve ever been to, but it was one of those events that we get a lot of around here - arranged by enthusiasts who put their heart and soul into putting on something that is entertaining for everyone. And I’d far rather have that than some corporate sponsored, sterile offering run by people who are only interested in how much money they can make from us punters.
