HG Wells

I felt terrible for most of today. I stayed in bed until 11am, but my whole night was short bursts of sleep and a long time trying to get comfortable. Even when I am not lying on the painful shoulder, it aches considerably more when I am in bed. But the lack of sleep makes me want to stay under the covers. It's turning into quite a vicious circle.

Later, to Woking to see family. Prosecco was offered upon arrival, and I hoped that a couple of glasses would null the throbbing shoulder, but it didn't work. I feel I ought not to self-medicate with alcohol.

We had a lovely lunch at a local pub with a park view. There was some consternation that we'd not get the table we wanted, but upon arrival, it was free. PY ordered using the app, a process that took quite a bit of time. We did not get the complimentary gin and tonic because we hadn't realised it needed to be ordered with the main dishes.

After lunch we decided to walk through Woking. I stopped to take a picture of the HG Wells statue during the walk. Although he didn't live in Woking for a long time, the Martian landing in his novel, War Of The Worlds, was set in nearby Horsell Common. The town has a couple of statues to commemorate his residency. I have used a picture of the Martian sculpture in a previous entry. Later, we bought Starbucks and some cake and returned to the flat.
