Pizza Jazz
After work, we headed to the Pizza Express Live venue in Holborn to see a German jazz singer, Ada Morghe, perform a set. We had cheaper tickets. Just like in any venue, tickets that are higher priced get a premium view. In the first half, I saw the side of Ada's face; the remainder of her was obscured by the back of the guitarist. In the second half, I switched seats and got a better view. This picture is taken from the second half's opening when she plays the piano and sings. It was not the view I had most of the evening.
We had not heard of Ada before, but it is a mark of how much we enjoyed the concert that we both came home and started streaming some of her work. The gateway song is Box, from the album of the same name. It was co-written with Andrew Roachford (perhaps best known for the hit song Cuddly Toy). It has a pop vibe more than some of the tracks we heard tonight, but it was great to find it.
A very rowdy table near the bar became louder and louder as the evening progressed (which also probably meant more alcohol was consumed). Once you'd heard them, it was impossible not to hear the chatter above the music. PY asked them to keep the volume down, but it didn't have much impact. It didn't spoil the event, but it's incredible how some people can be oblivious to their effect on others.
