Willow wood

I met SJ for coffee in the Walled Garden today and there is a new willow structure on one side of the main pathway. Apparently this side has always been very wet and the gardeners were finding it difficult to eradicate ‘mares’ tails’ from the damp environment. They decided to work with the soggy ground rather than fight it, so have introduced lots of willow saplings, which love a watery position.

It makes for a very pleasant sculpture!
