Hare Two Quid
A recce with photo society pal Hilary guiding me round Clerkenwell for a scheduled camera walk in July. Lots of nooks and crannies that I havn't seen before.
On the way back to the station I took a picture of this hare krishna monk. Little did I know that they have a well practiced sales technique. He immediately engaged me in conversation and gave me a blossom bud. Then a gift of a book about the krishna spirituality or something.
I declined it, saying I was never going to read it. But he refused to take it back. Then he suggested I make a donation as gratitude for the book and taking his photo. But I can take anyone in the street I explained, and I didnt want the book.
He continued to "suggest" the donation. I saw it as a demand. Even just a penny he said. So the only coin I had was a £2. On receipt he then got us to read the hare krishna mantra together.
What a well oiled racket. No wonder they manage to entice so many innocents into their cult.
So don't try taking pix of the krishnas. You wont escape.
