Eday
Now on Sanday after the most excellent of crossings to the island from Kirkwall this afternoon. The 90 minute voyage to one of the northern isles passed in a flash as we crossed the seas on a gloriously sunny day.
The two extras are of the bay outside our airbnb for the next 4 nights. We’re on the northern tip of the island at 59deg north. At 22.50 there’s still a glow to the northwest.
It’s meant to be a great place to see stars but I don't think it’s going to be dark enough for a full display. Neither is there any aurora forecast tonight.
After leaving Stromness this morning we travelled to Tankerness near Kirkwall airport to visit Sheila Fleet’s jewellery and cafe for breakfast. What a fantastic place it was, so smart, in a converted chapel with a wonderful coordinated decor.
We asked if we could see the workshops and were given a personal tour showing all the stages from creation of the initial design to the finishing of the pieces. Quite brilliant.
On return to Kirkwall we spent an enjoyable hour in the museum mainly looking at the Ness of Brodgar exhibition. There’s so much to see and do in the museum that it would take at least three visits to do it justice.
Just time for a little shopping before boarding the ferry to Sanday.
On the next two days the Orkney Nature Festival has a number of events on Sanday which we will be joining.
