Journey Over Land and Sea
Tranwell Farm Off Grid camping was great, lovely hot shower this morning with hot water courtesy of their solar panels. Dropped in on Bex on the way to our lengthy journey to Holyhead to exchange books. The journey was uneventful but long, 280 miles to our ferry terminal at the unfortunate dump that is Holyhead. It is sad as we learned from locals last time we were here last year that the town is dying from neglect, and quite separately from the rest of Anglesea which is beautiful, no one ever comes there because restaurants have largely closed, toilets are out of order and graffiti everywhere. It is in danger of becoming solely a ferry terminal.
By contrast, the Irish Ferries fast ferry was excellent, and took us in a speedy 2 hours and 15 mins to Dublin. We then experienced the intense crowded, traffic choked center of Dublin for over 30 mins before exiting the city and finding our pleasant, though large campsite about 10 miles out. So many young people seemingly in Dublin to drink, club and dance in the streets. I am sure it has atmosphere, but it just seemed overrun and not in a good way. Oh and lastly, after all the driving and tiring day, I was looking forward to a gin and tonic, but Sainsbury had forgotten to take off what I thought initially was a fancy top to the gin bottle. Unfortunately, it was the security cap and it took me 30 minutes and a completely destroyed cap on the bottle to get it off and actually sit down and have the G&T!
