Surprise!
An eventful day! Rowan was helping to build a new chicken run and noticed something funny with one of Sketch’s hoggs. They have been staying with us for a few months. She went to have a look and saw it was having a lamb! This one wasn’t meant to be pregnant…
Lucky she spotted it when she did because it was stuck with just its head out. We called Sketch over and helped catch her and deliver the baby lamb. Its head was very swollen and we thought it had died - but with some jiggling it came to life! It’s was very weak and unable to see or stand up so we milked the ewe and Rowan helped tube feed some colostrum.
The ewe is doing a good job and the lamb is starting to perk up - hopefully it will make it. We moved them into the byre to give them a warmer first night. Fingers crossed!
Seems there was a rogue ram jumping fences in January…
