Cat's Paw

The theme of Auden's poem is unconsciously reiterated as a member of the National Trust's curatorial team at Ickworth dusts the premises before it opens to the general public, whilst the horrifying spectacle of The Fury of Athamas is acted out in John Flaxman's classical sculpture nearby.

(Mrs Catspaw and I were on a guided tour of the State Rooms in the Rotunda that gave us entry to the house 15 minutes before its general opening time.)
