El Capricho de Gaudi
It was a packed day today! We began with the Jurassic Museum of the Asturias which was housed in an ultra modern building consisting of three dones . The scientific information was excellent- as it was the 20th anniversary we saw artefacts not usually displayed and all for free ! I didn’t have high hopes as the outside as the usual massive dinosaur replicas ! The information on the dinosaur footprints was fascinating and we now know everything there is to know about dinosaurs including mating !:)
See extra for the walk we did last night when we went to see the dinosaur footprint ms on the local beach .
As the day was drizzly later to become torrential rain, we called at Ribadesella a port on an estuary ( spotted a crane ) . Then as the rain was incessant, we drove back towards Santander to Comillas - a gorgeous limitless town full of architectural gems including El Capricho !
El Capricho was stunning and fascinating. We spent over 2 hours exploring the outside and then the interior which is so distinct. The detail and Gaudi’s love of nature shone through. The man who it was designed for loved music and that is themed throughout- ceilings with the appropriate number of decorations to match a piece of music . The furniture on show was beautiful. It is impossible to capture its beauty here . The audio guide was excellent so we learnt much more about it .
