Glorious Gannets on the Bass Rock

We drove over to the east coast this morning for a trip I have wanted to do for a long time. We were booked on to a 90 minute three island tour on a RIB from North Berwick Harbour at 11am. There was a bit of a haar (sea fog) but the sea was calm and we saw dolphins, seals, kittiwakes, razorbill, puffins and many more en route to the Bass Rock but when it emerged from the haar it was a wonderful sight! The Gannets are thankfully back in their thousands this year and getting on with their egg laying. It was a brilliant trip and so fantastic to see these majestic birds up close at their nesting site which is the largest colony of Northern gannets in the world. They arrive here in late February and stay until October when they set off on their long journey down to the west coast of Africa, truly awesome birds.
