The Van

The Royal BC Museum has just opened the Terry Fox exhibit, including the van that was used in his Marathon of Hope journey across Canada. I was 15 and waiting for the bus at 6:00 am when he came through our town. Not many people were there - a police car, Terry, and the van following - but it was a sight to see - and hear. A few claps, and words of encouragement, but mostly quiet, with the distinct sound of Terry’s artificial leg as he ran. It all came flooding back when I saw the van.
