Lorna Doone!
Today had a holiday feel to it. The weather was sunny and warm. We deserved a day off.
We drove up to Lorna Doone country (apparently; I've never read the book). We did a little (3-mile) circular walk around the little north Exmoor villages of Malmsmead and Oare. This photo is taken from the Church of St Mary in Oare. It is, I gather, the church in which Ms Doone was shot by some family member while trying to marry some bloke. It is a lovely little 15th century church - if you like that sort of thing - with old box pews.
We had to take a small detour near the end of our walk when we encountered a very jittery (but very large) cow in a small field, who decided we might be a threat to her two calves. She may have been content to just stare at us, stamping her foot, but we decided the sensible course of action was to turn around and find an alternative route.
