Dead And Alive

Another evening of gardening.  The days are lengthening quickly and today’s entry was taken at 20:16 with another 30 minutes to go before sunset.

The new leaves are illuminated by the sun, however all is not well. To the left of today’s photo is the dead bare branches of a lilac tree or bush.

I think that is one tree/bush I can take down myself. What do I put in its place? The extra shows a lilac of similar which is in good health and flowering well.
