My Grandmother's Clock (redux)

It still doesn't work, although as I was up on a stool anyway to take this picture I tried setting it in motion once again. The striker, shown as an extra, still works fine. I set the pendulum in motion and it gave a few halfhearted ticks but had stopped again by the time I climbed off the stool.

Even without actually showing the correct hour, I do love the numbers on the face. Who bothers with detail like that these days. Whilst looking for the winding key, I found a piece of paper with a picture of a similar clock, made in Waterford, Connecticut around 1900 and valued in 2012 at $500. Not that I would ever sell it. Who besides me would ever want a clock that refuses to tell the time?

I mentioned to Kathy yesterday that my knee feels fine, but my back and my left hip have been complaining. The orthopedist who did the surgery told me during my pre-op visit that my right leg was half an inch shorter than the left. I have no idea how he knew this since he never even looked at my knee or watched me walk. Kathy checked yesterday at 3 months post-op and said my left leg was a quarter inch shorter than my right. She gave me a quarter inch heel lift to try in my shoe. Hopefully that will balance things out a little bit.
