Hong Kong
It's nearly forty-six years since my family returned to England from Hong Kong.
My brother and I have toyed with idea of returning a few times, but in such a rapidly changing city, I was always concerned that my childhood memories would be somehow overwritten.
But today, we did come back, along with the Minx, landing this afternoon at Chek Lap Kok Airport, which is new to me but which was actually opened in 1998. (I suspect there's going to be a lot of that.)
The taxis are still red, though, and we took one from the airport over the bridges and through Kowloon to Hong Kong Island, to our hotel, The Burlington, on Hennessy Road.
We took a little time to unpack and freshen up, before taking a stroll through the streets, enjoying the familiar feel of warmth accompanied by heavy rain, until we found a restaurant for dinner, enjoying the Chinese food as well as their robot, which was assisting the serving staff by bringing food from the kitchen and ferrying away the used plates.
