.....what a whopper.......
Up and out early this morning...met Shaun and Sam at 7.40 for breakfast.
Set up the competition table.......the owner of the venue kindly donated a baseball cap for each of the contestants plus one for each of the coaches......and two prizes of 7 days free fishing for the best anglers.
As each team arrived they were given their packs....rules, scoring system, team declaration sheets and a pen.
$0 youngsters turned up....draw was at 9.00...and the all in, sounded by my whistle at 10.00.....the match was five hours...finish at 15.00.
Weather was glorious....if any thing too hot....we had to make sure the kids had sun cream and sufficient liquids.
Every one of the 40 caught.......the winner had over 55lbs!
This is one of our youngsters.....Ollie....he fished a method known as pellet waggler for the first time ever today....this is the second fish he caught....a mirror carp 13lb 13oz.....I had to coach him every step of the way to get him to land it successfully.....in total he caught over 28lb! Not bad for a first match! I also hd to coach his Dad into how to net the fish for Ollie....it was a tense 20 minutes.....yes that's how long it took to land this beast.
At the end of the match the pressure was all on me....I had to collect all the weights for each individual...award the points for each section...total said points to find the winning team and then go through all 40 results to find the top 10 weights.
The prizes were awarded......medals for the six members of the winning team.......a trophy to the winning team......medals to the top 10.
We got away about 16.20...........home to find the S & H, YH and Charlie waiting for a BBQ and the daughter waiting to go out for the rest of the evening.
Eventually they all departed and I had the house to myself....and with a few cold beers I watched the Lions trounce the Aussies!
All I have to do now is calculate the total weight for each team.....record the six section winners....put all 40 anglers into results order...email the results to all 7 team managers plus the venue owner.....and contact the local press.
That will have to wait until Monday evening....off to see Dad tomorrow....it's going to be a scorcher again!
