Royal Treat

One of my fondest love child memories dates back to the days my mom would pile her four daughters into her car and drive to or from Seneca Lake. Even though the trip was only an hour or so, we would often stop for ice cream along the way.

Today, my nephew and I carried out a family tradition and stopped for black raspberry soft serve at The Royal Treat in Millport, New York, USA. This was a new spot for both of us, but the promise of black raspberry flavored anything had us thinking about it since passing by earlier in the day.

What a cool place! They even had vegan soft serve in a mango-pineapple swirl. Pretty sophisticated for a roadside stand in rural Upstate NY.

After I snapped this photo and another of my cone, an older gentleman asked why I was taking photos of ice cream. My nephew answered, "She's a writer and always does this." The man seemed pleased, and gave me a smile as I attacked my cone like a hungry lion.

As we drove away, I gave the old guy a wave. It was a nice moment in time.
