Pond life.
I missed the arrival of the cygnets whilst we were away in Scotland and yesterday my leg muscle (calf) was acting up so I decided to forgo the early walk.
Another trip into Bingley late morning so we went via Coppice Pond to see them. Several pairs of geese, both Canada and Greylag but the swans were round the far side. Passed outcast juveniles at the end of the pond and saw the goslings that arrived before we left being paraded across the path and into the water by mum and dad. All six there but they’ve certainly grown over the last couple of weeks. Extra
Saw two swans crossing the pond on the own but the cygnets were with the mum at the shady far edge. Hard to get clear pictures without the reedy grass in the way. (It seems there are three adults again in this family but so far only one brood.)
All eight were present, thank fully, but this shot of two was my favourite. There is one of six of them in the extra collage.
Walking back to the car we stopped to feed the geese and soon the male swan was speeding his way across the water to chase the geese away. He is so powerful as he puts on full speed! Extra
We saw three pairs of geese, one with youngsters, I’m really surprised they stay with his aggressive behaviour.
We saw so many geese with young in the Highlands living such a tranquil life by comparison.
If I hadn’t seen the cygnets I knew there would be Rhododendron and Flag Iris out at the minute which would do for Flower Friday and you can see both in the extra collage.
