Wayside Mallow or Mauve
When trees are planted here in town, there is always a square, rectangle or circle of earth cut out of the pavement. This way, the trees can be watered. The earth at the base of the trees is sprinkled with seeds of wild flowers, sometimes even cereals and often poppies. In my street these tall plants of Mallow have grown. They bring in a welcome splash of colour.
I have always known these flowers by the name of 'Mauve', from the word for that colour in French. Their colour varies from pale pink to various shades of mauve.
