Dean Village and the Water of Leith
A bit misty to start Friday. After a wee bit of rain, I head down to Braidburn Valley Park to see what effect. The Extra is no of the Braid Burn, but of the S Path in Fairmilehead Park, which has a wee burn running along it. It drains in to a wee burn sourced by a spring in the park. This burn, along with other springs in the area, eventually flow in to the Braid. No wonder the stream is so high. The other reason is the NE wind, blowing the damp air up towards the Pentland Hills. According to various weather stations around Edinburgh, the rainfall data over 36hours, from 10am on Wednesday to 10pm Thursday night shows that south Edinburgh got soaked (and it was still tipping it down for at least another 6 hours):
Bush 111 mm
Comiston 96 mm
Nunraw Abbey 95 mm
Torduff 91 mm
Edinburgh Botanic Gardens 48mm
In the afternoon, partner and I get the bus in to town, then we walk to Dean Village, view from the bridge. The Water of Leith is pretty high. But from evidence walking along the Water of Leith path towards Stockbridge, it must have been a good three feet higher than the image shows.
Once at Stockbridge, it is a wee wander around the charity shops. There is a little light rain at time. Just before 4, we head to a café for Friday coffee and cake. From the umbrellas, just in time, so we avoid the heavy rain shower. We visit a couple more charity shops, before heading home on the bus, whereupon we avoid another rain shower.
Nice relaxing evening. Dry and warm.
