ACE Cafe, A406 North Circular, London
Collage shows the Gloucestershire RBL Riders Branch bikers that attended the Royal British Legion Riders Branch ACE Cafe Day. Me, Nigel (Nipper), Lez and his granddaughter Liliah.
A shame there was only the three of us when there's 80 people on the books for RBLR Gloucestershire, but another one did turn up, in a car, as he was heading for Heathrow to pick up his wife. He had to pass LHR to get to us, of course, so it was greatly appreciated that he took the time to come and make an appearance.
An early start, we set off (bottom right photo) from the Shurdington roundabout, above the A417 dual carriageway, at 07:00.We got to London, ACE Cafe, at a couple of minutes before 09:00. Good going but it was early on a Sunday so little traffic, but what we did have was pretty much constant rain all the way apart from a couple of minutes sunshine at Oxford.
For the whole event (9 until we left at 13:45) the sun shone. As soon as we left we refuelled and rode into intermittent torrential downpours broken by a few miles of sunshine in between the soakings.
Never mind, we had a great day and the other two both got a trophy.
Lez for the "Best Trike in show" (Honda 1800 Goldwing trike)
Nigel for the "Best Adventure Bike" (Honda Africa Twin)
I didn't win a prize but those that did really deserved them. If there was a prize for dirtiest bike I could have won that one! See extra
