The Scallop

This stainless steel sculpture by Maggi Hambling is on Aldeburgh beach, and is dedicated to Benjamin Britten, who used to walk here in the afternoons. The upright section is pierced with the words: "I hear those voices that will not be drowned", which are taken from Britten's opera Peter Grimes.
