It didn’t last ……

On the train from Frankfurt to Utrecht.
A really fancy DB ICE. Like HS2 but it runs on ordinary rails. DB however mark up unreserved seats and then allocate them to people booking through agencies but don’t amend the indicators above the seats. So we got settled in a couple of ‘free’ seats only to be asked to move by a couple who got on 2 minutes before departure and had a reservation. Luckily a pair of reserved seats were no shows and so we used them. Evidently 15 minutes after departure the reservation ‘expires’ and the seats are free if not occupied.
Once we got over the border into Holland the train slowed to a crawl and we were late into Utrecht. We were also on the wrong platform and 2 out 3 Dutch rail users don’t know where Schiedam is! Made it in the end and deciphered the way to use the RET which is a light railway.
Now in our cabin on the ferry just about to head off for some food……and possibly beer!
