lovely weather for ducks

.....Or in our case for a two year old who has a swimming lesson. I met Ali and the girls in time for Josie's swimming lesson this morning. My role was to look after Bonnie while Ali and Josie swam. My charge slept the entire time, I was pleased about that as she was awake when handed over to me, so I did a good job.
I set off for home afterwards and Ali put the girls in the buggy and headed off. About 5 minutes later the heavens opened. There was nothing I could do, I had no car seats and by the time I went to get them they would have been even wetter. She'd timed it just wrong, the rain stopped completely as they got home.

My blip was taken from the car, just near our house. You can just about make out the figure of a young man at the corner. (You can just make out his pale blue jeans) watched as he tried three times to get around the corner, each time being driven back by a huge wave of water, higher than he was, caused by cars going through the puddle at the lights.
He literally had to leap back to try to avoid the water. In the end he had to wait, well back from the corner and tucked into a driveway, until the lights changed.
He was young and fit and having difficulty goodness knows how those who were less so poor had buggies or wheelchairs managed. There's a doctor's surgery right there, I'll bet they had some very wet patients.
I took Joyce to the train after lunch and she is safely home in Leeds again. Next time I see her she'll be a year older!

So disappointed for those who completed the marathon yesterday in such foul conditions and didn't receive their medal. It's unforgivable on the part of the organisers and it's not the first thing something like this has happened. In 2010, the year after my sister died our girls both took part to raise money for Cancer Research and they ran out of tee shirts. It's a small thing, but when having the right number of items is the only thing you have to do, it's pretty poor if you can't do it.
People will have been looking forward to going into work to show off their medals and celebrate their achievement with friends and colleagues. It just won't be the same thing at all doing that in six weeks time.
