Yellow’s on the Broom

Whenever I see broom in flower it reminds me of the great Scottish song written by Adam McNaughton about the passing of a way of life for travellers.
“I’ll tak ye on the road again when yellow’s on the broom”

I know it’s an invasive species, but it’s been around all my life. There was an old goods railway line that serviced the wood mill beside my childhood home. There was always broom on the embankments, and more so after the railway closed down as a consequence of the Beeching Report in 1963.
