Hokkaido
When we got to the top right hand corner of Honshu, we visited Hokkaido for the day, and so barely scratched the surface. We had a choice and chose to go to the wonderful new Ainu Museum. The Ainu were the indigenous people from Honshu, through Hokkaido, as far as the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin. Persecuted by the Russians and Japanese they are now mostly on Hokkaido and are starting to collect and celebrate their culture. The extra shows the architecture, two of the exhibits and part of the craft demonstration.
As we sailed away from Muroran, a flock of unknown birds flew across the bay.
