Octopus
Back blip 4/5.
I wandered around the 16th Street Mall and other parts of downtown Denver while Jill was giving her presentation at the conference. Afterward, we met a friend for lunch.
Marcus was my mentor during my internship at The Denver Post. He's a good guy. He'd had it rough the last 15 years. His wife left him and took their kid, he was laid off and had to retire, he had to get roommates to afford his mortgage.
But things have picked up in the last year. His kid graduated from high school and started speaking to him again, and he's finding out that what his mom told him about Marcus was a lot of lies. They're reconnecting. He's getting Social Security, pensions and has part-time work at a university, so he's doing well money-wise. He also just bought a cool Corvette. It sounds like he's landed on his feet. It was great seeing him again.
