Foxglove Wasp
I spotted this European paper wasp on the foxglove this afternoon. I first saw one last summer, they seem to be here to stay. I've decided to blip this image as it shows the foxglove stigmas and styles. These are left when the lowermost corollas, which are made are made up of five petals fused together, age and fall to the ground. Fascinating to think of people in the past picking them up and putting them on their fingers as I did yesterday.
PS I saw my first common blue butterfly of the season in the front garden this afternoon.
