Wet Wet Wet...catch-up blip - 4
There had been a recurring theme through the weekends visit in that there had been much rain.
Ms.Arell made me lots of cups of tea as we waited for things to bait off but alas they never did, so somewhere between 2 & 3pm we hugged our goodbyes and Biscuit took your Gal onto the A702 to head back to Manchester.
The the time I was heading down towards Biggar enjoying the beautifully finished road surface (hats off...very nice for riding on) there was water getting into my 'waterproof' trousers.
By the time Annandale Water Services was reached for a brew stop my waterproof boots were making squelching noises, hence a decision was taken to tuck into the peanut butter & banana sandwiches early that Ms.Arell had kindly prepared. She had ripened the 'nanas to perfection...nom nom...thanks Gal :-)
After brimming Biscuits fuel tank, the highway was hit once more and Yaaaay it was still raining. Passing back into England and crossing the River Esk brought a brief dry spell - let's hazard a guess at say 30 minutes - the wet stuff returned just south of Penrith, visibility being very poor climbing upto Shap and with a lot of water on the ground down the other side.
There was an intention to have a cuppa at Killington Lake, part of a 'three stop strategy' as the Formula 1 teams might say, the two stops the Friday previous not feeling like enough of a breather. However, sitting down drenched is not much fun either and I didn't fancy taking my waterproof soaking wet gloves off just yet. Instead we chugged on south to Lancaster (boop boop...Forton!) Services which would leave not too far further on for home.
A picture of the tower from the southbound side was snapped before squelching over the bridge to sit in the northbound canteen area next to the old.steel windows in the Shunpike-Sisters (un)official corner on the settees. I put my feet up for half an hour (boots weren't on the table don't worry...Chapter Rules were followed) and drank exactly 500ml of tea.
Being a little bored of the M6 canal by now, a lock gate was taken onto the M65, rising up & down a flight of several more onto the M66/M60 for home.
The day consisted mainly of precipitation and rolling the last mile home am sure Sailing By was serenely playing somewhere between my ears.
Thank you brain, and thank you Ms.Arell for a lovely weekend x
