Life in a Northern Town

Who's watching whom?

The robin seemed very curious to know who was observing him.

Sad day today - Sarah had swimming lessons for years and I used to sit and watch with a lady who also had a couple of children in the lessons; she would bring her youngest, a toddler, with her and we'd chat and have coffee. We became friends and we'd meet up for lunch and coffee regularly - we've stayed in touch via Instagram but I haven't seen her in person since Covid. Last month the toddler, now 17, took his own life. He had a supportive and loving family, with 3 older siblings who doted on him. He was a talented rugby player, about to play for Scotland U19s in the Rugby League Euros, had a huge circle of friends and had so much life to live. Today was his funeral - I watched the live stream; his Mum was incredible, she spoke for 20 minutes about her lovely boy, I have no idea how she did it. It was the most amazing eulogy I have ever heard, full of joy and love and heartbreak. The whole family paid such wonderful tribute to him.  Their loss is unimaginable.
