Ground Zero?
I thought a visit to Sandham Memorial Chapel was long overdue. The chapel, managed by the National Trust, features wall to ceiling panels painted by Sir Stanley Spencer inspired by his experiences in WW1 as a hospital orderly. The paintings represent some of the horrors he saw, but are uplifting as he found a way to cope. In particular the central panel represents the end of conflict with soldiers climbing out of their graves to shake hands and pass their crosses to a central Christ figure.
Sadly, copyright does not allow photography, so I headed out into the garden to find some some shots for Flower Friday with foxgloves and orchids to the fore (extras).
With some time still in hand, I headed over to Greenham Common, the former site of the US Air Force's base for nuclear weapons. Today the restored heathland is now a haven for nature and wildlife and a venue for outdoor activities. I took a short walk around, again looking for subjects for today's challenge and eventually settled on the tiny blue flower, one of the milkworts I believe, probably the common milkwort (I always forget to check the leaves which would help identification!).
I rested the camera on the ground to take this, hence the title - but rather liked the inference to the previous use of this area.
