North sea oil

This charm belonged to my mother-in-law and contains drops of the first North Sea Oil produced in 1976.
Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of the Piper Alpha Disaster which was the world's worst offshore disaster when 167 men were killed and only 61 survived, most of whom jumped from the burning rig into the sea.   The event brought about major changes in improving offshore safety but we mustn't forget the dangers facing those working in one of the most dangerous jobs in the world, often facing dreadful weather and working in a hazardous environment with dangerous machinery.   All this so that not only can we benefit from oil for fuel but also for using in everyday items such as plastics,  paint, cosmetics and even clothing.
