A Flowering Hen Abbreviation
Today was yet another awful day of Spring weather - it mostly just lashed it down. We did pop out for a quick drink and then stopped on the way back at our local village of Aylesford for a quick walk in between downpours.
I hadn't seen anything all day for a blip image until I saw these bright orange flowers on the outside wall what of what was our local restaurant, The Hengist, which closed at the end of last year following financial troubles and, subsequently, very sadly the death of its owner.
On a happier note a new owner is now taking it on and the outside has been repainted with the orange flowers adding a touch of colour and as a sign of its forthcoming opening. I couldn't get the whole name of the restaurant in the image I wanted (hence the title) as well as the flowers so I had to settle for this more abstract composition.
The new owner worked as one of the managers at the restaurant more than a decade a go before he left to pursue another career and always said to friends and family that he would love to run the restaurant himself one day and that it was his dream to take it on if it ever became available, albeit not is such sad circumstances.
The refurbishment, which he hopes will make it feel special again whilst keeping the historical features that make the 16th Century property unique, now looks well under way and he wants people will fall in love with is vision for it - alongside the restaurant serving high-quality food he is intending to introduce a theatrical cocktail menu with drinks presented in glasses such as a red phone box, a hot air balloon, a smokey bathtub and a bird cage!
After such a sad end to last year when our local pub also had to close its doors it's a sign of hope for the village and we are wishing the new owner all the very best in his new venture.
