Old Man of the Forest

Isn't he marvellous?
This extraordinary sculpture stands at the entrance to Blackley Forest - a wonderful 'community forest' within walking distance of our place. Aren't we lucky? He stands next to a companion sculpture - a huge snake - both well over 6' tall. They are surrounded by a little ring of wooden mushrooms. Perhaps there is a mythical tale about them. Beautifully sculpted, but I can't find any reference to the artist anywhere on the site or website. Pity - I was going to impress you with my newfound knowledge.
