Unused Iron

These little bits of cast iron serve no purpose today, and in fact many of these shoe/boot cleaners have been removed from the front doors of Georgian properties or are hidden by pot plants. Back in the day though before the car, walking home could be a bit fraught especially with the limitations of gas street lights and putting one's foot in it was not deemed to be a euphemism. They are still a stylish bit of design, functional and easy cleanable by folk who would do that sort thing of course.
